SGGURLS 2015 June meet FAQ
Since we started the SGGURLS monthly meet after a 5 year hiatus, we have been getting a lot of inquiries from new gurls. The trans scene in Singapore is not new but still in it's infancy. There is no historian amongst us. However the trans scene has come a long way from the notorious Bugis days,the working gurls who prowl the Changi Village parking lot, foreign ladyboys who ply their trade in Geylang, SGB and recently SGGURLS. A typical question ask in our SGGURLS form is what happens in our meets? The short answer is less exciting the questioners' imagination:
Our gurls meet is an opportunity to snap some photos for memory sake, drink, catch up with each other. However, to trully appreciate why we meet, understanding the reason why SGGURLS exist is important. Before SGGURLS, SGB was the defacto group formed to support transexuals. It was a magnet for all spectrum of gurls. It wasn't long before a cheerleader mentality became the norm in the group with being passable and demonstrating committment to transtitioning being the key to entering the cheerleader clique. Hairy men with beard dressed in tutus provided comic relief. SGGURLS were formed in recognition that labels were detrimental to diversity when there is a huge spectrum to being gbt. SGGURLS is like cross between Mission streets GLBT Historical society and SF's Marlena's.
SGGURLS are open to all who wishes to express their feminity in a nonjudgemental environment. We have BDSM'ers, maskers, zentais, admirers, young ones, old ones like me, ts, etc. People can come as they are. Often I get 20 questions from newbies about appropriate dressing.
