SGGURLS 8th Anniversary

SGGURLS celebrated it's 8th anniversary on Saturday with new and old friends.

Des, Nic and Adaline, the founders of SGGURLS kept the torch burning for other gurls. Why do gurls need a beacon? Everyone needs a beacon in life. A light in the dark to assure other gurls that they are not alone. They can be accepted and there is a place for the in the greater scheme of things.

Esther SGGURL's mod presented Ada and Nic an expensive bottle of red wine (1997) from her collection.

Most SGGURLS are friends in real life, in and out of meets. Most of the time we just like chilling out, chatting and watching movie.

We were watching Adaline's wonderful compliation of SGGURLS from the last 7 years.

Sggurls is a meeting of friends. It's not so much a group but rather a philosophy where we are humans facing challenges especially gender dysphoria. SGGURLS though mostly made up of transgenders, is a nexus where diversity, respect and friendship meet. Anyone can be a Singapore Gurl. Most important is being non-judgemental. Transgenders occupies a large rainbow spectrum from gurls just starting out to gurls who have transited to full womanhood.

SGGURLS 2015 November meet: Saree night

The moderators usually meet on the weekends and sometimes just go out shopping on the weekdays. The gurls are trully good friends inside and outside of the meets. This is the real calling of SGGURLS to help people network without prejudice. There is no pressure to dress, look good, to pass. It's easy to be an SGGURLS (our version of the Singapore Gurl). Loose your ego, your inhibition, our fear and just be yourself.

SGGURLS has seen 8 eights of activities, four generations of gurls. Some are still with us and some can't for personal reasons. We don't replace any group or are we really a group. SGGURLS is a philosophy for this time and this place.

The SGGURLS logo was designed by Trisha Leong, a very talented advertiser. Her talent is under utlized. If you need a director / VP of advertising / marketing, she's your girl.

SGGURLS cuts across racial, ethnic, language and economic bariers. As the gurls get to know each other, we've found an enormous amount of talent. SGGURLS is a mirror of the Singapore Rojak. The baby of our group, Des, has an incredible eye and touch of a great makeup artist. She's still a struggling makeup artist but given enough opportunites, you may find her one day doing the makeup of runway models in NY.

We ended the last day of the month with fun, makeup, closeups and a photographer searching for our number one. Number one gurl that is for our calendar pagent. The search has begun. Our photographer was Joyce, resident make over artist Destynee and modeling coach Nic.

SGGURLS 2015 Sept Meet

This month's meeting is dedicated to SGGURLS darling baby, Destynee. She's coming into her own as a wonderful woman.

Des is organizing a transgender pagent open to all members of SGGURLS. This pagent is important on several levels. On a personal level, Des is going all out to prove that guts, brains and hard work are more important just beauty and brain. Yes, she's the beauty queen in our group. When Des pulls this off, she would have made a statement in her own way: a transsexual can pull off a classy pagent in Singapore. She's got the support of her friends in SGGURLS.

Why is this pagent so important? One is that we try to educate our own gurls that being yourself is important and that labels are not. SGGURLS was founded with the principle that all humans carry a degree of feminity and masculinity. What appears on the outside is the mix male:female percentage. For instance, someone macho like Brad Pitt with all his male BO etc. will be 100male:0female. In SGGURLS a TS can have a mix of 5% male: 95% female. There are so many possibilties of mix that it is virtually impossible to affix a label. Hence, SGGURLS has no labels for its members. The pagent will allow gurls from all spectrum of mix to look their best. Des will do the makeover for a small token. We will let the members vote the 12 most beautiful gurls and put them onto a calendar which we will print and distribute. We also want to use the proceeds to help our transgender community. The Trans group in Singapore is a loosely knitted group. SGGURLS has been the magnet for many of the gurls that otherwise would not have found a social group to
socialize. This coming Wednesday, 30th September 2015, 8:00 pm onwards we are having a makeover session and photoshoot. The For gurls interested in doing their makeover and getting their photo taken, please look for Nicole or Des. There is a token fee involved for the makeover. We need a photographer. Any volunteers?

We are so happy meet some of our friends who are on our facebook for the longest time but have never met up in real life. They are so much sexier and interesting in person. We have created a safe environment where gurls can come out, hang out and just be out in real life. There is no cost for to join us. We also encourage our gurls to involve their spouses if their spouces demonstrate open mindedness. The reward will outweigh the risk of shock.
